I would like to begin my story talking about my husband and myself, our age difference and the trouble we've been through in the past four years. In 1986, When I met Martin we dated a year and three months. In the year and three months we dated, we traveled dirt roads looking for wildlife and different scenery. We married in 1987, we continued on with traveling looking for wildlife, up until 1995. Martin took two strokes leaving him blind to the right side and also memory loss, following this he took a seizure leaving him in a coma for three days. Martin came home a few days later noticing that he could not see out of the good part of his left eye, we went to see a specialist. Martin was diagnosed with a Cancerous Melenoma Tumor and had to have his left eye removed. As a result of this Martin is now diagnosed with dementia which is a form of Alzheimer, he can no longer travel, he can no longer drive. He can not do any form of recreation. Martin and I are 34 years apart in age, we are married 18 years, we are still together as much today as we were when we first married. Martin still has to go for checkup's every 3 to 6 months, but today things are as well as can be expected.

A bit about Martin's Life. Martin quit school at the age of 13 to come to Cape Breton to stay with his Grandmother and Grandfather who at that time were in there 80's. Martin's Grandmother was born in Till Cove, Newfoundland. Martin's Grandfather was a landed Immigrant from France. After Martin's Grandfather passed on in 1948, Martin moved to Halifax at the age of 15 and got a job as a telegraph boy with C P Tell and lived with his Father and 2 brothers. At the age of 18 Martin started working at the Halifax Waterfront. Martin joined the Stevedores Union. Then Martin started traveling across Upper Canada and the United States as a Stevedore Supervisior. When there was no work in Oct and Nov on the Waterfront, Martin became a Registered Nova Scotia Guide with the Lands and Forest. Martin unfortunately became some-what disabled from injuries from working on the Waterfront. At the age of 47 Martin was forced to take a early retirement. After Martin retired he lived in Halifax for awhile and in 1983, Martin moved to Cape Breton where he owned a Cottage at Point Michaud Beach. After living at the Cottage for a year Martin bought himself a home in L'ardoise where he now resides with me. I have lived in L'ardoise all my life, and it is here where I met my Dear and Wonderful Husband. It has been 18 yrs that we have been happily married.
